A small arable field adjoining the Church Yard, there is a story afloat in the neighbourhood of its once being a hiding place of King Robert Bruce hence its name.

This ruin stands upon the site of a large famous Priory of the Premonstratensian Order founded by Fergus Lord of Galloway who flourished in the reign of David the first of Scotland & in which some of the innumerable relics of St Ninian were said to be deposited. on the S.W. [South West] corner is a Saxon Arch probably the finest specimen of that ancient and beautiful Style of architecture (See next page)
