SPROUSTON [parish] Sprouston (Parish) continued [continued from page 2] were, till lately to be seen in the Church Yard, which still continues to be the burial place for that part of the parish. The site of this church is on the plan. "Hadden Staut" and "Redden Burn" are frequently spoken of in Border History as the spots on which the English & Scotch commissioners met for the fixing of boundaries and for the setting of other territorial disputes. "Hadden Rig" was the scene of a conflict in 1540. between the scots and 3000 Englush horse in which the latter were defeated. There are two villages in the Parish, Sprouston and Lempitlaw - the former about 200 yards from the tweed and the latter in the extreme S.E. of the parish, it consists of [continued on page 4]
