SPROUSTON [parish] | Sprouston (Parish) | continued | [continued from page 3] 23 inhabited houses, or Cottages and three one story farm houses and outbuildings and a small endowed school. Though the parish church is situated in the centre of the village of Sprouston none are distant from it more than between 3 & 4 miles. It was built in 1781, had the stairs to the gallery, which are inside, included in 1822, the seats, 600 in number, are all free, but allocated to particular farms. The manse was built in 1777 is small but in good repair. The Glebe which lies between the manse and the river contains 7 acres 18 poles - & is of the very best quality. There are three schools in two parish, the parochial and two side schools of the latter, one is at Hadden. [continued on page 5] |
