For a short distance it forms the parish boundary. Name supposed to be taken from the colour of the water.

010About 1 3/4 miles E.S.E. from West Calder A small wooden station on the Caledonian Railway and about 15 miles from Edinburgh. It consists of an office and wating [sic] room and serves as a station for the village of West Calder. Four trains, up and down, stop here daily.
