[Situation] On the west side of the Water of Leith adjoining the Old Queensferry Road.
This name applies to 2 flour mills with granaries &c. attached and several small cottages adjacent the latter occupied chiefly by labourers besides a good house or cottage occupied by the proprietor John Sawers. The whole forming a sort of hamlet or small village. The mills are worked by two water wheels which are turned by water from the Water of Leith. At this place is a bridge over the Water of Leith which is usually called Bells Mills Bridge.

This name is applied very generally to the milldam or pool which supplies Bell's Mills with water and which is raised by means of a dam or weir across the Water of Leith at this place.
