002 A ridge of rocks running N [North] & South. The top of which is scarcely visible at High Water. They are situated about 1/2 mile West of Granton Pier and often prove fatal to Coasting vessels. This name is supposed to have been given from the circumstance of the earl of Hertfords landing here (with 200 sail in the Firth) by order of Henry Vlll [Eighth] in consequence of the refusal in marriage of his son Edward Vl [Sixth] and the unfortunate Mary Stuart

002 An ancient mansion house situates in a park on the Seacoast of about 100 acres it is three storeys high built in a rectangular shape with a quadrangular court and by two different dates it seems to have been built in the year 1585 & 1596 on the outside are to be seen inscribed the names of Vicount [Viscount] & Vicountess [Viscountess] Talbot. It formerly was called Kingston, and Royston, which latter signifies the same and lastly Caroline Park, from Queen Caroline, it is unoccupied at present and is the property of the Duke of Buccleuch
