028 | This name applies to the bend of the road a little East of South Mossgiel. it appears that some 60 or 70 years ago the road was Kept in bad repair here. Together with a stream of water which flows across the road which caused Stepping Stones to be placed. Parties travelling from Mauchline well filled with spirits were considered fortunate if they managed to cross this place without tumbling in, hence the name. George Patrick likewise states that this name was in existence before Burns arrival in the locality. one thing certain that this name with the Lousy Bush are well known. |
