3. "Supposed site of
a burial ground". In the
descriptive remarks of this
supposed burial ground, it
is stated "The site, as pointed
out by John Fisher and afterwards
agreed to by H. Montgomerie
Esqr is supposed to be a
cemetery or burial ground
which at one time was in
connection with the "Stane
Castle & Chapel" "there are
no marks or traces on the
ground sufficiently definite [continued on OS1/3/31/ 65C]

[Right hand column] -- Although Mr Montgomerie and
Messrs Blair and Paterson, Bankers, Irvine,
know nothing about the matter,
it does not follow that such a
building did not exist here,
The appearance of the
ruins found by Mr Grey and pointed
out as the "Supposed site of a Chapel" and
Verified to A Certain extent by Mr
Fisher may be correct or not, as
no doubt these persons have read in
the Stat. Accts. [Statistical Accounts] independent of any other
traditions, that such a building was in
Connection with the Castle grounds, -- [initialled] RH.
