1 Stane Castle. It is
stated in the descriptive remarks
of this object that "From enquiries
made from H. Montgomerie
Esqr and other influential
persons, the burial ground
& chapel etc as mentioned in
the Statistical Accounts of
Ayr cannot be identified
on the ground" Will you
have the goodness to state
who the "other influential
persons" are - The names
of persons giving information
sho [should] be supplied in every
instance - This, I suppose
you have been told before
by Mr Morgan -

2. "Supposed site of
a chapel" - It is stated in
the descriptive remarks of this
supposed object, that, "the
foundations of a building
have been discovered by Mr
Gray" & "while excavating for
drainage purposes, from the
appearance which the foundations
presented, there can be little
doubt the superstructure
must have been of considerable

modified this statement,
which it is evident was written
hurriedly and without due
