027.08 The old village of Campsie in which the remains of the old Church of the Parish, bearing date 1774, stand in the burying ground. The Ph. [Parish] School & Manse are in the Clachan. The houses are few & scattered. There is nothing here of importance in the village besides the School & Manse, except a fine Inn near the entrance to the "Campsie or Kirkton Glen". There is also a Bleachfield here, but at present it is idle. Commonly this is called the "Clachan" only, but in writings &c. it is more strictly used as "Clachan of Campsie".
