This Name applies to the termination of a Considerable Ridge, Chiefly in the Ph. [Parish] of Ancrum, over which the Great Roman Road Called Watling Street, crosses. The battle of Ancrum Muir was fought a short distance from this place, & it is stated that a young female called "Lilliard" fought on the Side of the Scots, fell in this battle & was buried on the Spot, from which Circumstance the ridge retains the name of Lilliard's Edge.
