015.05 Is a high hill, of whinstone formation, Situated in the northwest part of the parish of Crailing, And the entire Summit was Strongly fortyfied, by a Wall, And trench. All of which are now nearly obliterated. but are Still traceable, It appears to have been formed by the Ancient Britons, And was a place of great Strength, This hill commands An extensive prospect of the Surrounding Country, taking in the whole mosse, as far as the German Ocean, the Cheviot Range, Southwards, Tweeddale. to the north, And the windings of the Teviot westwards etc. It has been Rendered Still more Conspicuous, by a Monumental Pillar, erected on its Summit, by the Marquis of of Lothian, to commemorate the Battle of Waterloo -
