028 About a quarter of a mile South East of the Manse there was a tumulus about 24 feet in diameter and 5 feet high. It had been often ploughed over. When explored it was found to contain 6 Cists, varying in length from 3 feet to 18 inches. One of these had been previously opened. of the rest one contained burnt bones and pieces of an urn. Another an entire urn with chevron and straight lined pattern alternately, from top to bottom, also the skeleton of an aged person of small stature with broad flattish scull. In another were found a rude flint Arrowhead, some charcoal and blackened grain. The next gave burnt bones and human teeth a thumb flint or scraper and blackened grain. The last was filled with fine sand and contained small fragments of burnt bone & charcoal. This group of Cists was very curious as shewing proof of burial by burning and otherwise in the the same tumulus. Description by Revd. [Reverend] J. M. Joass Golspie
