Fort George were quarried, on the Bennetsfield estate,
prolonged from the southern shore of Munlochy Bay, by the
ridge of Drumderfit, and Knockbain, to Lettoch, Coul, ------- not in this Parish
and Redcastle, on Loch Beauly
3rd Ridge, Proceeding at first in a direction rather transverse
to the former two, by Avoch House and Rosehaugh, this ridge. ------- Written & Described
afterwards assumes a course more parallel to them, as it pro-
ceeds past Suddy, Allanbank, Allangrange, and Arperpheilly ------- not in this Parish
to the heights behind Redcastle, where it sinks rapidly, and on
the estate of Tarradale is covered by the gravelly accumulations ------- not in the Parish
of Muir of Ord.
4th Ridge. The great central range of the ancient commonly
called Milbuy, which overlooks all the other ridges, its elevation ------- written Mullbuie
being 500 feet above the sea Behind Belmaduthy House, this ------- not in Avoch Ph [Parish]
ridge attains its greatest altitude, but ut thence proceeds with
no interuptions or breaks in its outline, and generally of a
pretty equal height, both towards Cromarty on the east, and
by Tore, Kilcoy Castle, and Ryefield on the west, to the valley
which is watered by the rivers Orrin and Conon, which separate
it from the sloping fields and rocky frontlets of Brahan.
There are three land owners in the parish Sir James W. Mackenzie
of Scatwell, Bart. [Baronet] Lord Lieutenant of the County. His seat of
Rosehaugh House stands on a beautiful bank about 1 1/2 mile
from the sea The 2nd Land owner is Alexander Mackenzie Esq.
of Avoch. The House of Avoch was burned in 1833, while it ------- Written Avoch
was rented by General Sir Donald McLeod. The 3rd landowner ------- House (in Ruins)
is John Matheson Esq: of Bonnetsfield. He is now resident on
his own estate in this parish on a beautifully romantic spot
near Munlochy Bay.
Antiquities. _ Almost the only antiquities in this parish are the
sites of ancient Castle of Avoch, and the ruins of an old town called ------- Site, & remains
Arkendeith. The former occupied a detached rocky knoll ------- shewn as ormond castle Arkendeith
about 200 feet above the level of the sea - which juts out from the ------- Tower written & Descd [Described]
easter corner of the hill of Castletown, which forms the northern prom
