074 | A manufacturing village (opperations at present suspended) Situated in the parishes of Redgorton and Auchtergaven. 7ΒΌ miles from Perth on the Toll road leading to Dunkeld by Boat of Caputh. The village is traversed by Sheets of different names, almost paralle to each other and also with three streets in the Feus, which form a part of the village. The buildings along the Streets are very regular, commodious and of uniform height, but are become almost vacated in consequence of the Stoppage of the Cotton mills which gave employment to nearly 1200 persons. There is the ordinary compliment of public houses, and ecclesiastical buildings. A chapel of ease in connection with the Established church, erected in the year 1830 by Messrs Buchannon and Company at a cost of 4000 pounds, and Seated for 1200 persons. A free church erected in the village shortly after the disruption, in the Auchtergaven portion of the village. The whole of the village is feued from his grace the Duke of Athol by Howard Esqr of Stanley house & Balthayock |
