This was a gate or port in the City Wall it Stood at the north and the Skinnergate immediatlely on the inside of the Towns Lead which now runs under the Street the water being here arched over and the Street Constructed above it. In former times there was a bridge across the lead at this place and the port is in many documents Called Red Bridge Port. The site is referenced on two plans of the City dated respectively 1774 and 1792.
