098 [Situation] On the West Side of George Street near its north end.
A small but handssome Structure of finely polished Sandstone the Style of which is that of the Pantheon at Rome. It was erected in 1822 by public Subscription chiefly of the Citizens of Perth in memory of the late Thomas Marshall Esq. of Glenalmond formerly Lord Provost of Perth. In the upper part of the building which contains two galleries are the museum and library of the Literary and Antiquarian Society and the lower part is commodiously fitted up and contains the Perth Library a public circulating library containing several thousand volumes Chiefly history, philosophy and belles-lettres.
