087 This is all that remains of the ancient Castle of Evelick, the Seat of the Lindsays, Knights of Evelick. It was a place of Considerable Strength and Commanded a pass from the Carse of Gowrie to Strathmore through the Sidlaw Hills. In Cultivating the field at the north side of this Castle some years ago the Workmen discovered some stone Coffins Containing Human bones &c. The place was pointed out to me by J. McKercher, Schoolmaster. The date of the erection of the Castle is not given in the Statistical Account.
