109 | [Situation] In the Northern portion of the parish A large Village in the Centre of Parish of the Same name and at the North base of the Ochil Hills. It consists of Parish Church and Manse; U. P. [United Presbyterian] Church and Manse; Evangelical Union Chapel; Town Hall; Parish & Subscription schools; Bank; Gas Works, two Inns, a P. H. [Public House] a few Shops and Several well Constructed dwellinghouses: The Inhabitants are chiefly Employed in Handloom Weaving. The Village is Situated in the Dunning Burgh. There are three fairs or markets held in May June & October Annually, in a field at the West of the Village Called the Cattle Market. |

Note The estate of Duncrub is a burgh of barony of which the village of
Dunning is part. Lord Rollo the proprietor is the baron. The
jurisdiction is still exercised by a baillie chosen by the baron
but the legal business done by him is very limitted being the decision
of a few petty cases within the barony. On fair days a staff of constables
chosen by the baron from his tenantry, attend at the fairs armed with
Lochaber axes and all litigants are brought before the baron baillie.

It is not competent to appeal from the baron baillie's to any other court except to the baron or
to the Court of Session i.e. the Sheriff or his substitute, or Justice of Peace cannot review a case
after the decision of the baillie

noticing the barony of Duncrub on the ordnance plans,
therefore the boundary has not been perambulated
