110 | [Situation] On the eastern part of the Castle Law This place appears evidently to be the site of a British hill fort. It consists of an eliptical area or table land on a sort of pinnacle or highest point of the hill Called Castle Law, It was naturally defended on all Sides being quite a precipice all round, - Lying in a scattered mass on the precipices of the N.W. [North West] and S E [South East] sides of this pinnacle are immense accumulations of stones, and it is stated by the inhabitants that a great deal of these stones were taken away to build fences and for other purposes, from time to time, The method of removing being to throw them or roll them down the sides of the hill and then remove their Carts. The surface of the masses of Stones now remaining Consists of small stones, such as would be gathered from an arable field, most of them, not more than two or three pounds weight except a scattered mas at the [Continued on page 62] |
