FORT (Remains of) [Castle Law] [Continued] S W [South West] side which consists mostly of large stones. The late Mr. Small a gentleman of eccentric notions who lived in Abernethy and wrote a work on the Roman Antiquities of Fifeshire and also an the antiquities of Abernethy and vacinity, maintains that this place is the site of a Castle in which the Pictish Kings resided, but there is no foundation for such conjecture, he also treats of the sites of several forts on many hills and Knolls in the parish but there are no traditions or remains as proof of the correctness of such conjectures.
Some intelligent people in Abernethy suppose that the fort on Castle Law was a vitrified fort in proof of this Mr. Brown late baron bailie states that he found several masses of of vitrified stones embedded in the soil on the east side of the hill some years ago when in in process of cultivating the land but at present there is no appearance of such vitrification.
