TRAQUAIR (Detached) (Continued) [continued from page 3]
County of Peebles from the Tweed Southwards for the distance of About 1¼ Miles thence by the parish of Peebles in the County of Selkirk to Birks Cairn where it meets the Parish of Yarrow in the County of Selkirk with which it marches on the S.E. [South East] side, to the Tweed below Cardrona. It measures About 3⅓ Miles along the right bank of the Tweed and about 4⅓ Miles from the Tweed to the Sharp Point in which it terminates at Birks Cairn. The general description given of Traquair Proper applies equally to this. The arable land in this part is of a superior description. The hills are steep but not so lofty as those of the other parts of the Parish. It is richly wooded, well fenced and drained, and yields large crops of all the Kinds cultivated in similarly situated localities in the neighbourhood. The Church stood on the left bank of Kirk Burn, part of it is still standing. From the proximity of this to Peebles most of the parishioners attend worship there - See description of Traquair (Proper).
