CAIRN (Site of) [Lead Law] | Site of Cairn Site of Cairn |
R. Gordon Esqr Halmyre T. Kirkpatrick Cockitslane |
005 | [Situation] On the summit of Lead Law A small circular piece of ground, in the wood on the summit of Lead Law, the surface of which is grass, having a few bolders here and there, which are the only remains to be seen of the Cairn. It must have been a very large cairn at some time, because the village of Linton, and the farm houses in the neighbourhood were built from it. This was one of the line of Cairns that extended from Musselburgh to Carstairs; The first, on entering this county from the east, is that near Deepsykehead, the next on Lead Law, then the three cairns west of North Slipperfield, continue on and leave this county near Fernyhaugh. It is said that there were neither urns, nor human remains found on opening this cairn. |
