This well is Situated on Bareback Knowe -- from which, proceeds a Small Stream, And falling into Glentress Burn. A Similar well, though not So Copious in its discharge, is to be found close to, And after a short Course running into it, As seen on the Trace.

010 [Situation] East of Bareback Knowe

This hill is of Considerable height, & is Situated on the boundary seperating the Counties of Edinburgh & Peebles. On the Summit and Side belonging to the County of Peebles, it Consists mostly of Moss -- And on the Side belonging to the County of Edinburgh, it consists chiefly of Rough pasture. A Trigonometrical Station is on its Summit. This hill is the principal part of a nameless range of hills of which Pringles Green, Cadon Head etc. are also parts.
