M.P. whilst excavating a tumulus came upon a stone Cist which was placed in the centre of the mound about 4 feet deep, through which he had to cut, The cist was about 3 feet in length 2 feet in breadth and about 2 1/2 in depth and lay due east and west The sides and ends were particularly of finer slabs in excellent preservation, the flags were carefully shaped and set on their edges the covering was a flag fitting closely as also did the one at the bottom these forming a complete and neatly constructed cist the cist contained nothing but ashes supposed to have been that of human remains, it was discovered A.D. 1869.
