Ordnance Survey
I have received your favor, without date
stating that you are directed by Captain Bolland R.E [Royal Engineers]
"to describe and write the name of Ardclach on the
"Ordnance Survey documents, as a village, including the
"Church, manse, school, Post Office, and several Dwelling
"houses; and not as I applied it to the farmsteading
"situated near the manse". - You also ask my
authority for the mode of spelling -
The spelling is quite accurate -
Excuse me for stating, that I cannot
understand, how Captain Bolland came to instruct
you as he has done. There is no village of Ardclach;
the Church is situated in a hollow, nearly a quarter
