010.08 The Principal Street of Forres on the high road from Inverness to Aberdeen. It extends from North Back Street on the East to the Castle Hill, and Bridge Street on the West. The houses vary in height from one storey to three, a few of them are thatched but chiefly slated and they are generally in good repair. The ground flats of most of the houses are used as Shops, of which there are a very good variety for the size of the town. Of the Public Buildings the High Street contains the Town House, the Four Banks, Mechanics Institute, Anderson's Institution, Post Office, Fraser's Hotel, The Market Cross, and the Established Church and Manse. It belongs to various Proprietors.
