012 A ridge partly arable and part heathy on the Farm of Kirkton. Tradition says that Sir William St. Clair of Roslin stood here during the celebrated match between King Robert Bruce's hounds and his, and which led to the erection of St. Catherine's Church, the vestiges of which are still visible when the Reservoir a little South is unusually low. This affair is mentioned by Sir Walter Scott in the "Lay of the Last Minstrel".
