At this place is held a sheep market once a year on the second Monday of April. The magistrates of Edinburgh in the year 1612 gave Lord Abernethy of Salton the superiority of some at Salton for the right of holding fairs at House of Muir. It was formerly held once a week and was the sheep market for the City.
