006 The name Belvedere is a french word which signifies "a place from which a person has an agreeable prospect"
This translation is well appropriated to the position on which this fabric stands from it the eye embraces the side of a very extensive county and not only did this place serve as a gratification to the sight to many of the french nobility who frequented this spot, but often was the scence of mirth and festivity; It is now almost in a ruinous state; though possessed of any apartment etc, save that of the windows it is about 22 ft square by 30 high, on the west side it is surmounted with two staircases terminating in a conical shape topped with a vane and built upon an earthen mound about 10ft elevated. I cannot ascertain the date of this place, but 2 believe it not to be more than []
