006 A small village containing 3 Rows of cottages situated about 3½ miles South of Edinburgh on the Peebles Road they are thatched and in middling repair containing about 12 families who are principally of the labouring classes; There are many conjectures regarding the proper derivation of this name; the etymology of which almost remains in obscurity but most probably from what I can glean. that it was from the "Cock's Comb" which assertion is corroberated from its being once called the "Red Cames or Combs"
