006 | The site of the ancient chapel of St Catherine; which has been known as such from time immemmorial; it was subordinate to the Ph [Parish] church and no doubt was erected owing to the celebrated mineral well situated contiguous. which was famous for working miracles this however like many others handsome sacred fabrics connected with the R [Roman] Catholics, were abolished at the the Reformation; part of the ruins were standing about 150 years ago previous to Sir William Rae's erecting a handsome mansion on its site, which assertion was corrobrated a few years ago by an individual who, while making some improvements came in contact with the foundation together with numerous bones the remains of individuals who had been interred |
