[Situation] Near the NW [North West] side of Morningside and about 10 chains WSW. [West South West] of Burghmuirhead A large building of the castelated style The central part of this building, which is 6 storeys high is very ancient the other part of the building Consists of additions, made to it from time to time. There was an academy or boarding school established here about 20 years ago which is still in a prosperous state at present conducted by Mr Gibson. All the pupils have board & lodging in the Academy the average number of pupils is about 60 The education consists of the [--] branches taught in Academies It is not endowed or connected with any society or religious body but is a private undertaking. Mr Gibson is principal there are several other masters who are either resident or visiting teachers. |
