A large and plain built edifice, surmounted by a short ornamental spire containing a clock, it was erected in 1775 upon the site of the old church that was dedicated to St. Cuthbert. The interior is well fitted out with gallaries pews &c, and is calculated to hold about 2000 persons, about 800 sittings are let and 20 pews are reserved for elders & the poor of the parish. The encumbents is the Rev. [Reverend] John Paul D. D. [Doctor of Divinity] and the Rev. [Reverend] J. Vietch, their joint salary amounts to about £900. This church is surrounded by a large cemetery. |
