[Situation] South Side of Abbey A small house in which is a court room in which the Bailie of Holyrood sometimes holds a court the cases before this court is always for debt. Its jurisdiction being over those residing within the sanctuary. The protection of the sanctuary is here obtained for debtors by application to the Bailie of Holyrood who is commissioned by the Duke of Hamilton the form of application is by petition & paying £2..2 as fees, formerly many availed themselves of the protection of the sanctuary but since a late alteration of the laws of debtors & Creditors there are but very few who apply for it. A House keeper resides here who is also clerk to the Bailie. This house is on the site of an old residence of the Duke of Hamilton. |
