A pretty large house in middling repair erected in or about the [beginning] of the 16 century for the town [residence] of the earls of Panmure it afterwards became the habitation of Doctor [Adam] Smith author of the Book on the [Wealth] of nation. about Ten years ago it [came] into the hands of the present [proprietors] Mrses Blaikie and Sons.
