[Situation] Adjoining the canongate Church
A neat rectangular building erected in 1836 two Stories high. The lower story is unoccupied and is intended to be occupied as burial vaults. The upper story is the school room The average number of children attending it are 240 there are two masters & one female teacher. The ordinary branches of English education are taught besides Latin. The principal teacher is Mr Stormonth. This school is supported by Public subscription & partly by the funds of the burgh & by small school fees.

An old delapidated looking house Said to have been the town residence of the Dukes of Gordon in former times, but now inhabited by small shop Keepers and mechanics, in front of the the house are three latin inscription immediately over a ledge of projecting stones with the date on the centre one 1570
