A parish in the extreme north east of Edinburghshire, bounded on the north by the Firth of Forth; on the east by Haddingtonshire; on the south east byCranston, on the south by Dalkeith on the south west by Newton; and on the west by Liberton and Duddingston. The name Inveresk appears plainly to be Gaelic words "Inbhir Uisge". Inver Esk would therefore signify the the confluence of the Esk, and the Esk itself signifies water. This parish is in the Presbytery of Dalkeith and synod of Lothian and Tweeddale. The Patron is the Duke of Buccleuch.
