The parish Church situated in the village of the name [Corstorphine], it is of great antiquity and Seems to have been erected in the 15th Century by Sir John Forrester adjoining to which was a collegiate Church erected by the same individual which is wholly destroyed or remoddelled [remodelled] so as to form a portion of the present edifice, in it are some ancient shrines, situated in the wall, consisting of statues representing a Knight in armour and a lady, bearing escutcheons no doubt of the Forrester Family, it is surmounted with a small steeple of a Conical shape. The roof of this building is flagged except the Northern wing which was remoddelled [remodelled] in 1831 it contains 532 sittings all of which are free. This building was originally dedicated to St John |
