By people in the neighbourhood it is sometimes called the East Town of Spittal, but no proper, authentic, information can substantiate such a name. In all documents - lawful and parochial, it is given only as "Spittal". The old mansion house, from a date bon the front of it, was built in 1763. There is a public right of way through the Lands of Spittal, leading to the farm of Flutterdab in Lesmahagow Parish. |
