Baird, Factor 007.13 A village in the south of the Parish having a U.P. Church, a school, & a Post Office. The Post Road to Edinburgh passes through it. The origin of this name is from a Cross & a Toll which were formerly on the gate leading to the Manor House of Tollcross. The Tolls were principally levied upon vehicles going to the markets of Rutherglen. All traces of the Old Manor House & the gate which had the Cross, are entirely removed.
UNITED PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH [Shettleston] O.P. Church O.P. Church O.P. Church Revd: Mr. White R. Rennie. J. Baird, Factor 007.13 A large building capable of containing a congregation of 1500. It was formerly a Relief Ch. Revd. Mr White, Incumbent. There is a Steeple in the centre of the north side, having four clocks.
