The Parish Church stands in the centre of the town and contains accommodation for nearly 2000 persons - it was built in 1777. It is a plain building in good repair with a Tower at its East end about 70 feet high. It has a statue of Sir Wm[William] Wallace placed over the principal door the production of a Mr Forrest a self taught sculptor. -History of Lanark.

Amongst the minor antiquities may be mentioned of the Church Bells it was removed from the Old to the present Parish Ch. [Church] and has been several times refounded . It bears the dates of these - the 1st [first] is so early as 1110, the 2nd [second] 1659 - and the last 1740 -

A small opening South of the Ch.[Church] it forms a Communication between Broomgate and Castlegate. The houses in it are well built. 2 and 3 storeys slated and in good repair.
