This Building was erected in 1838 by Voluntary Contributions together with a grant in aid from Government of £100. It was intended for an Educational Institution or Academy and the funds with which it was built were chiefly contributed by the Reverend Mr. Boreland Minister of the United Presbyterian Church, Broomgate, and by his congregation. It is at present unoccupied for want of a Teacher and has been so for some years back.
It is well built, 2 storeys, and slated. The upper storey was set apart for Females and the under one for Males.
The upper storey is occasionally used for Public meetings.

025.15 This was the entrance from the old Castle into the Town. and was removed in 1796; the Arch was about 10 feet high and the walls were very thick. It is still remembered by some of the older inhabitants.

A well built house. 2 Storeys slated and in good repair. It has Outhouses attached and is the property and residence of Mr. Stark.
