033.09 A block of whinstone about 3 feet high and 6 inches square resting in a block or roughly cut pedestal of the same kind of stone about 1 foot square and 9 inches above the ground.
There is great uncertainty about its origin but is generally thought to be a remnant of Druidical times. This is the opinion of the authorities quoted, except Mr Braidwood who is of opinion that it is a Roman creation, it does not however belong to any order of Architecture
"Except the perpendicular stones or crosses, of which mention has already been made, and the remains of a camp or station in the South - west corner of the parish, there are no other antiquities which deserve notice"

There are no perpendicular stones or crosses at present in the parish. Those referred to in the Statistical Account having been since removed.
