001.06 "A river which takes its rise in the parish of Kilsyth in Stirlingshire, and after a circuitous course falls into the Clyde below Glasgow." Gazetteer of Scotland
This river runs along the norther boundary of the parish for about 6 miles; there are embankments on each side nearly the whole way through the parish, they were made to prevent the river, when flooded from overflowing the adjacent grounds.
