043 [Situation] About 1/4 mile S.E. by E. [South East by East] of Rusco.
A large Camp or fortress on the lands of Rusco, and situate near the margin of the Water of Fleet. It is of a square form and seems to be Artificially constructed, surrounded on all sides but the North by a fosse and Rampart - and on the North by a small abrupt declevity of about 60 feet from top to bottom, No traditional or historical account of it can be got respecting it in its locality, Capn [Captain] Denniston of Creetown, a learned Antiquarian says that this Camp is the work of the Romans, many other intelligent persons in the locality are of the same opinion.
