	[St Palladius Chapel continued]			[continued from page 129] "where in the Altar Stood, and where the shrine of St Palladius was exhibited. near to it is the Piscina and on the other side the little stone [Peess] in which the sacramental elements were Kept. The Altar Arch is Norman; that of the Piscina Gothic; refuting the reputed theory, that the latter, at least, was introduced from Spain in the 12th Century. Both arches were in all likelihood in the Chapel in the 5th Century. There is a vault beneath & extending, from side to side of the Chapel, and about half the length of it , and excavated out of the Solid Rock. It Contains niches all round its walls: in which doubtless were suspended Lamps and images of the Virgin Mary. Many Skulls and bones were found in it; and it was likely the place of interment of the Incumbent of the Parish in Popish, Episcopal, and Presbyterian Times. The last Minister buried here, was the Rev [Reverend] Thomas Forbes, nearly 100 years ago. It is no unreasonable conjecture to Suppose that here the celebrated John -de - Fordoun, Bishope, of the Roman Church, and author of the Scotch=ronican, was incumbent of the Parish in 1377, as in that year he dedicated his work to the Archbishop of Glasgow".
