031 | This name is applied to a burying ground situate on a small Knoll 1 1/2 [1 and a half] miles south west from Newton, and on the south side of Druim na Croise. It appears to be the only burying ground in connection with the Quoad Sacra Parish, the old name of which is Sand. It is not an ancient burial ground. It is still in use. |
| ST COLUMBA'S CHAPEL (In Ruins) | St Columba's Chapel (In Ruins) | Mr Alex [Alexander] Carmichael Benbecula | These remains are situate at the above mentioned burying place [Clachan Sanda], and are said to be the remains of a Chapel built by St Columba. 15 feet of what appears to be the west gabel is all that remains of the edifice, but a portion of one of the side walls can be traced running into the face of the Knoll forming the burying grounds. It appears to have been built with lime and mortar and flatish moor stones. |
