"It is about 9 feet in width and the building gradually forms itself into a dangerous looking Cupola of extremely rude workmanship but which has stood the test of unknown ages. Not having as yet been properly excavated we could not ascertain its depth but by comparison, we should not think it more than 12 or 15 feet. An opening on its western side of about 2 feet 9 inches in breadth allows the earnest explorer to crawl on all fours for about 6 feet, in all of which we found the same rude workmanship continued but how far it may run has yet to be discovered

The Scottish Chronicles relate that hereabout once stood a building named Cairngairy Castle belonging to a chieftain of the name of Gregory but the subterraneous building we speak of had been erected long before the age of Castle building" ++++
