This name is of ancient origin, and is said to have been given in commemoration of the Earl of Crawford, surnamed the Tiger having wreaked his vengeance here on Collace, Laird of Balnamoon, for his treachery at the Battle fought between Crawford and Huntly on the Hill of Stracathro, in 1452.
